For the past 7 years or so I have had the desire to run in some sort of race.  And on Sunday morning, at 7AM, that is exactly what I did.  I ran in my first 5K!

Whether it be a 5K, 10K, half-marathon or full marathon, the longing has been there for quite some time.  But for some reason or another it never worked out.

One time it was school partnered with work.  Other times I have been plagued by lower back issues.  But more often than not I believe I have been my biggest hindrance.

Perhaps there has been a lack of wanting to commit to such an event or to the training that would ensue because of the commitment.  It may be that perseverance was lacking.  Or maybe it’s been the history of failure and defeat that’s been etched on my heart from the times I haven’t been able to measure up to my own expectations or those given by others.

Regardless of if it has been an issue of the heart, body or circumstance that has held me back, something in the depths of my being cries out for me to run the race.

And I think that longing is buried somewhere inside each of us.

Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

As we each continue on this race that is set before us, I pray that our eyes would be set on the one who has gone before us, the author and perfecter of our faith.

Thank you for all of your prayers and financial support!  I am so close to being fully funded for my 2 year commitment in India.  To reach 100% of my goal, I am needing to raise $180 more in monthly committed support. Would you consider joining me on this journey as a financial supporter?

  1. I like how God teaches us so much through the things around us if we’ll have eyes to see. And you have eyes to see, Ryan!!

  2. Yes, “heaven is all around us” (maybe I’m listening to this song at the moment). Thanks Kelli!
